White Stag

University of Oregon has proposed to change the "Made in Oregon" sign to read "University of Oregon." While there may be several opposed to the sign changing due to it being an "iconic symbol" in the Portland, let me remind people that this would be the sign's 3rd name change from the original "White Satin" that rose above Portland's waterfront.

  • In 1940 the sign was built for White Satin Sugar Co.
  • In 1959 the sign was changed from "White Satin" to "White Stag" for White Stag Sportswear.
  • In 1997 the sign was changed from "White Stag" to "Made in Oregon"

  1. The UO has become too much of a land use bully lately. There are some videos where I make this point in further detail now posted on Utube. To watch them go to the Utube site and use their search with keywords:nike university of oregon
